State Abuses Polygamous Sect, Media Abuses Power

MSNBC staff and news service reports

The state has custody of 464 children from the Yearning For Zion Ranch in the west Texas prairie town of Eldorado, including a baby born to a teen mother Tuesday.

Concern about kids and broken bones
Although Cockerell didn’t elaborate on the broken bones, a report by his department’s Child Protective Services division said medical exams and interviews indicated “that at least 41 children have had broken bones in the past.”

41 out of 464! That's amazing. I've had two broken bones and a stress fracture in my leg and I wasn't even abused. I guess the media is so surprised because the group leaders managed to abuse all of these kids without braking too many bones. Amazing!

Okay, back to being serious. The media and reports will take any bit of information and blow it up to sell papers. Why is it assumed that these kids, who didn't spend their free time with the electric babysiters, Ms. Box and Ms. Station, are abused because they broke a few bones. They were probably outside playing, novel idea, huh? This goes to show how much power the media has. I don't know if the kids were abused physically. But that is all I know. I know that I don't know. Neither does the media. So reserve your judgment on this one until we have more information. The real abuse here is the state's abuse of power and the media's abuse of their influence. Reader beware.
